Fry's Equine Insurance has been in business since 1984

Susan Strawser

In 1993, I was looking for a part-time job in my hometown so I could work (which I enjoyed doing) and spend as much time with my son as I could.  I answered an ad in the local newspaper that seemed ideal – 4 days a week, 5 hours a day.

I interviewed with Jim Fry but didn’t know what type of business he was in.  I don’t think I would have answered the ad had I realized it was an insurance agency!  My idea of insurance, at the time, was pretty much most peoples’ – boring.

I accepted the position Jim offered and my son was having a great time playing with other children at daycare (which happened to be around the corner from the office).  I believe it was a “God-thing” that led me to this position at that particular time.

I’ve learned a lot since that March day in 1993.  The most important is that insurance is NOT boring.  We strive to educate every one who calls in regarding the policies we write.  I also learned that I don’t want to sell you something – I want to help you understand the coverage and only purchase what you need.

On a personal note, I have been married since 1985 to my wonderful husband, Brad, and we have one son, David (who is in college and will become a police officer).  My hobbies include scrapbooking, crocheting and reading.

I am currently working with www.OperationWriteHome.org to make homemade cards to send to our deployed service men and women so they can use them to write home.  It is a very rewarding way to express my creative side.

I crochet lapghans (lap-sized afghans) for veterans at the Veteran’s Hospital.  The organization is www.SoldiersAngels.org/ and they accept blankets, slippers, and other items that are crocheted, knitted, quilted, knotted, or sewed for veterans and deployed personnel. I also crochet prayer shawls for my church's prayer ministry as a gentle reminder of God's love wrapping around them in their time of need.
